Key facts
Amanohashidate has a lift at each end of its pine-covered sandbar, and a search for an Amanohashidate cable car lands on both. View Land stands on top of Mt. Monju, on the south side of the land bridge, a short walk from the station.10 Kasamatsu Park sits halfway between Motoise Kono Shrine and Nariai-ji Temple and is reached by cable car or chairlift.11 Each park gives the famous view from its own side, and the lift you ride puts you on one of those two sides.
The names are loose. Kyoto Prefecture's own guide says View Land can be reached via cable car or chair lift, while the park itself calls its rides a chairlift and a monorail.10,1,2 Kasamatsu Park is where you find a cable car and a lift side by side, sold on one shared ticket.12 Keeping the two parks apart in your head saves a lot of confusion when you read fares and timetables.
A day tour usually chooses for you. Our listing's Amanohashidate stop lasts 2 hours and shows the chairlift and monorail as an optional ride at an extra fee, which is the View Land side by the station. Another listing goes to the Kasamatsu side instead, boarding the cable car and lift at Fuchu Station and giving Kasamatsu Park 50 minutes. The rest of this page sets the two sides next to each other.

Fares are the operators' own, in yen, as their pages state them.3,5
The chairlift carries single riders and takes 6 minutes one way, and a ride can start at any time, with no timetable to match.1 The monorail leaves each platform every 20 minutes, takes up to 40 passengers in order of arrival and needs 7 minutes.2 You do not have to return the way you went up: take either one in each direction. A chairlift up and a monorail down gives you an open-air climb and a seated descent in the same visit.14
The Amanohashidate chairlift fare is folded into the park ticket and is never a separate line. From April 1, 2025 a round trip costs 1,000 yen for ages 12 and over and 500 yen for ages 6 and over.3 The ticket covers the lift or monorail round trip plus park entrance.15 View Land sells no one-way trips, and the park cannot be entered on foot or by car, so a round trip on a lift is the only way in.16
Children aged 6 and over can ride the chairlift alone, which makes it an easy ride for a family with older children.17 Each seat has a roof and the lift runs in rain, so bring an umbrella if you want one, and expect a drier ride than the open seat suggests.18 Wheelchair users take the monorail, using a dedicated elevator at the lower platform, so nobody in a mixed group has to be left at the bottom.19
The viewpoint stands 130 m above sea level, high enough to see the sandbar as a single green stroke laid across the bay.27 View Land says the lift and monorail platform is about 5 minutes from Amanohashidate Station, and Kyoto Prefecture gives a 7 minute walk.22,23 The park describes the upside-down Matanozoki view as the pine tree street looking like a dragon flying up to the sky.26
Plan a modest stay. View Land says walking around and enjoying the view takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour, and a visit with the playground runs 1 to 2 hours.28 The park has coin lockers that take a 100 yen coin and return it after use, which suits a day tripper who arrives with a bag and wants both hands free for the railing and the camera.29 Nothing here needs more than a short block of your day.
Hours move with the season. View Land opens at 9:00 AM for most of the year, at 8:30 AM from Jul 16 to Sep 15, and closes at 5:30 PM from Oct 1 to Nov 15, 5:00 PM from Nov 16 to Feb 15 and 6:30 PM from Jul 16 to Sep 15.6 The last ticket is sold half an hour before closing, so a late arrival in winter buys you very little time at the top.6

Kasamatsu Park for 50 minutes
Kasamatsu Park is the other overlook, and its cable car takes about 4 minutes, the shortest ride of the four on this page.4 The cable car runs at 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes past each hour, with extra runs in busy periods, so a short wait is normal and a long one is rare.21 The park has a gift shop, the Ama Terrace Restaurant and spots to view Amanohashidate upside down between your legs.30
The operator charges 400 yen one way and 800 yen round trip for an adult, and 200 yen one way and 400 yen round trip for a child.5 One ticket works for either ride, and you can go up by cable car and come down by lift or the other way round.12 If you also search for the Amanohashidate chair lift here, that is the Kasamatsu lift, a separate ride from the one at View Land and run by a different operator.
The cable car starts at 9:00 and ends at 18:00 from March to October, at 17:30 in February and November, and at 17:00 from December to January.25 The lift keeps shorter hours: it runs from 9:00 to 16:00 from March to November and only on weekends and holidays from January 6 to the end of February.7 A mountain bus also links the park with Nariai-ji Temple, which adds a half-day option for anyone who likes temples.31
Closing times by season
Feb 16 to Jun 30
The park closes at 5:30 PM, with the last ticket half an hour earlier.6
Jul 1 to Jul 15
The park closes at 6:00 PM.6
Jul 16 to Sep 15
The park opens at 8:30 AM and closes at 6:30 PM.6
Sep 16 to Sep 30
The park closes at 6:00 PM.6
Oct 1 to Nov 15
The park closes at 5:30 PM.6
Nov 16 to Feb 15
The park closes at 5:00 PM, and the last monorail up leaves at 4:20 PM.6,13
View Land is the easy one. From the station, it is a 5 minute walk by View Land's count and a 7 minute walk by Kyoto Prefecture's, or 10 minutes by car from the Miyazu Amanohashidate interchange.22,23 Amanohashidate Station is run by Kyoto Tango Railways and has a tourist information center on its first floor, a useful stop for current notices on lift closures before you buy a ticket.32
Kasamatsu takes more effort. From Amanohashidate Station it is 25 minutes by bus to the Kasamatsu Cable stop, or 12 minutes by sightseeing boat plus a 5 minute walk.24 The boat shuttles between the two ends of the sandbar in approximately 12 minutes, and the crossing becomes part of the day out instead of a chore between two stops.20
On a coach day the tour handles all of this. Our listing gives 2 hours at Amanohashidate with the optional lift ride, and you rejoin the coach afterward at the time your guide sets. A guest on our listing named the last part, with the chair lift and the beach, as the best part of the day. That fits a plan where the lift sits in the middle of the free time and the beach follows.

You will see the pine tree street as if the dragon were flying up to the sky.
Before you ride
Check the calendar before you plan around a lift. On chairlift maintenance days only the monorail runs at View Land, with long waits both going up and coming down.33 View Land's notice lists a complete closure from December 15 to 17 for works and the chairlift standing still all day on December 14 and 18, but it does not name the year, so check the notice before planning around December.8
Kasamatsu Park publishes its own notices. The operator's notice mentions a park closure on December 18, again without a year, and the same operator's pages carry the other suspensions.9 The lift there runs only on weekends and holidays from January 6 to the end of February, so a weekday winter visit means the cable car alone.7 Look at the operator's notice page the week you travel.
Winter days end early. From Nov 16 to Feb 15 the last View Land monorail leaves the lower platform at 4:20 PM and the last chairlift at 4:30 PM.13 Build the lift into the middle of the day, and treat anything after those times as a bonus. A day tour that reaches Amanohashidate in the early afternoon is the one that has to watch the clock.
If you book a coach day, read the stop list before the price. Our listing and a sibling listing with Miyama both name the chairlift and monorail, which puts the ride at View Land. A listing with a boat and lunch names the Kasamatsu cable car and lift instead, and gives the park 50 minutes. The two plans suit different readers, and the cards below set them side by side.
Our own listing shows the chairlift and monorail as optional at an extra fee, so the ticket is a decision you make on the day. The fare at View Land is 1,000 yen for an adult on a round trip, a figure to carry in cash or card as the guide advises.3 The listing also notes that most local shops may not take cards, so keep some cash for the little things.
Ask your guide how long the free time at Amanohashidate really is, and plan the lift around it. A visit that walks around the viewpoint takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour, and the lift ride itself adds minutes at each end.28,1 If time is tight, ride up and look, and leave the playground and the shops for another trip. The beach and the temple are still waiting below.
