One of the best days of our trip: places that would be hard to reach on our own, a well-planned day, and a knowledgeable, funny guide.

We fed the seagulls from the boat, and Ine Bay and the sandbar looked like a film set. The guide gave us tips for our stay in Kyoto too.

Great value for money. Doing all of this on our own would have been harder and dearer, and bring swimwear for the beach.

Time flew by and the scenery was fantastic, even from the coach, and our guide checked on people who seemed to be struggling.

Ine was beautiful though most things were closed on a Wednesday. The boat with the seagulls and the chair lift and beach were the best.

Definitely worth it. We had the best guide, who made the whole trip more fun and enjoyable for everyone on board.
the day out
The day starts in the city: you pick one of two starting-location options in Kyoto or Osaka, and the notes ask you to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early because the coach leaves promptly. The coach then takes 2.5 hours to the coast, with stretches of scenery that one guest counted as part of the day.
Ine comes first on the stop list and gets 1.5 hours, with an optional Ine Bay sightseeing boat of 30 minutes at an extra fee. Amanohashidate follows with 2 hours, taking in Viewland, Kaisen Bridge, the beach and Chionji Temple, plus an optional chairlift and monorail ride at an extra fee.
Then the coach drives back for 2.5 hours to one of two drop-off locations. You can reserve now and pay later, and the booking panel lower down shows open dates and the live price.

the sandbar
Amanohashidate is a land bridge of sand across the mouth of a bay, and Kyoto Prefecture says some 8,000 pine trees grow along the roughly 3.6 kilometer sandbar. You can walk it, which View Land says takes around 50 minutes, or ride it by bicycle in around 20 minutes.
The best known view is from above. View Land stands 130 m above sea level, and the park describes the upside-down Matanozoki view as the pine tree street looking like a dragon flying up to the sky.
The sandbar is a 5 minute walk from the station, so the place is easy to reach on foot once the coach has dropped you at the coast. Our tour gives it 2 hours, which is enough for a view, a temple and a stroll toward the beach.

Highs, lows and rainfall are NOAA readings from its Maizuru station, 18.5 km from Amanohashidate, averaged over 1971 to 2020; we calculate day length ourselves.
Pick a month for its temperatures and rainfall.
getting there
The coast is a long way from either city. The Amanohashidate Tourism Association gives about 2 hours from Kyoto and 2 hours 20 minutes from Osaka by express train, and about 5 hours from Tokyo. The coach takes 2.5 hours each way.
On your own, the last part runs on a local line that a private company owns, so national JR passes cannot be used on it. The highway bus from Kyoto costs 3,400 to 3,900 yen one way from October 1, 2026, depending on the day.
A tour takes all of that off your hands. The listing's two starting-location options sit in Kyoto and Osaka, and a sibling listing notes that Osaka departures return only to Osaka and Kyoto departures only to Kyoto.

Your day on the coast
Pick a date and a starting point. If plans change, cancellation stays free up to a day ahead.
Ine
Ine is a fishing village whose funaya boathouses stand at the water's edge, and Kyoto Prefecture says many of them have been converted into cafes, restaurants and inns. Our listing gives the village 1.5 hours, and the optional boat of 30 minutes shows the houses from the water.
Many funaya are still private homes, so visitors are asked to be respectful. The Ine tourist office asks visitors not to enter a funaya without permission, which means the stop is for walking, looking and photographs from the street and the bay.
Getting to Ine on your own is the hard part: about 3 hours from Kyoto by train and local bus, against 2 hours by car. On the coach it is part of the 2.5 hours you already spend on the road to the coast.

what guests say
The ten most recent English reviews on file give ten five-star ratings, from late July to early August 2026. Guests name their guides warmly, call the day easy compared with reaching these places alone, and say the scenery from the coach was part of the day. That fits the listing's rating of 4.8 from 552 reviews.
The details are specific. Several guests describe feeding seagulls from the boat, one says the day cost less and took less effort than doing it alone, and one found the chair lift and the beach the best part. The rating breakdown gives Guide 4.8, Transportation 4.9 and Value for money 4.9.
There is an honest caveat too. One guest found most things in Ine closed on a Wednesday, and one suggests bringing swimwear for the white sand beach. Both are worth a note before you pick a date.

FAQ

There are two starting-location options, and the listing gives no street address.

The Ine Bay sightseeing boat of 30 minutes is an optional extra fee.
The listing names live guides in Chinese and English.

Most local shops may not take cards.
Holiday and weekend traffic can delay the return, so the notes advise against evening flights and dinner plans.
The itinerary may change or shorten for weather, traffic or closures, and free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before.
the lift
The chairlift and monorail at Amanohashidate are an optional extra fee on our listing. View Land says a round trip costs 1,000 yen for ages 12 and over and 500 yen for ages 6 and over, with park entry included.
The chairlift takes 6 minutes one way and the monorail 7 minutes. The chairlift seats have roofs, so a shower does not close the ride, and children aged 6 and over can ride alone.
At the far end of the sandbar, Kasamatsu Park has its own cable car, which takes about 4 minutes and costs 800 yen round trip for an adult. Our listing's stop is on the View Land side, and a lift guide on this site compares the two.
Book, with fee-free cancellationA long walk, counted
The sandbar road at Amanohashidate is 3.6 km long.

Daylight changes the day as well. View Land closes at 5:30 PM from Oct 1 to Nov 15, at 5:00 PM from Nov 16 to Feb 15 and at 6:30 PM from Jul 16 to Sep 15. In winter the last monorail up leaves at 4:20 PM.
The coach tour runs on the listing's dates, and the itinerary may change or shorten for weather, traffic or closures. Read the best-time page of this site for the month-by-month view.

This is the Amanohashidate and Ine Funaya day tour we list: about 10 hours from one of two starting-location options in Kyoto or Osaka, with live guides in Chinese and English. The coach takes 2.5 hours each way, Ine gets 1.5 hours and Amanohashidate gets 2 hours. It starts from $52.

what to bring
Most local shops may not take cards, so the notes advise carrying some cash. The optional lift ride and the optional Ine Bay boat both carry an extra fee, so keep a little extra for them.
One guest suggests bringing swimwear, as the white sand beach at Amanohashidate is beautiful to swim in. The same review says the day was good value, and the guide may help with details on the day.
Guests aged 70 and over sign a waiver on arrival, and personal travel or accident insurance is not included. Check both before you book, and bring the voucher on your phone.

the return
The return coach takes 2.5 hours, and holiday and weekend traffic can delay it. The listing's notes advise against booking evening flights, shinkansen or dinner for the same day.
That is simple advice to follow. Plan a quiet evening, a late meal near the drop-off or nothing at all, and let the day end when it ends.
Free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before for a full refund, which gives you room to move the date if the forecast turns. The booking panel shows what is open.

Local time at Amanohashidate: --:--
on your own
Going independently is possible, and it suits a plan that is mostly the sandbar. The sandbar is a 5 minute walk from the station, and View Land says the lift and monorail platform is about 5 minutes from the station.
The operator's 2-day Tango Amanohashidate Ine free ticket costs 3,500 yen for an adult and covers local buses, the sightseeing boat, the Ine Bay cruise and the Kasamatsu cable car and lift. It does not cover the trip from Kyoto.
The tour-or-DIY page of this site sets the two plans side by side, with the times and fares from each source.
Book, with fee-free cancellationis it for you
It suits first-time visitors, couples and families who want Ine and the sandbar in one day without arranging transfers. One guest brought a 10-year-old who had a wonderful time, and the guides are named warmly in the reviews. Live guides speak Chinese and English.
It suits less a traveler who wants to stay late at the beach or linger in Ine, because the stops are timed, with Ine at 1.5 hours and Amanohashidate at 2 hours. A night at the sandbar is a different trip, and the stay page of this site goes into it.
One honest caveat: the day is long, and the coach does most of it. A listing with free cancellation up to 24 hours before gives you some room, and the booking panel shows the live price and open dates.
